Location

Where Is the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa?

The Dutch Embassy is located at 350 Albert Street, Suite 2020, in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Ottawa is Canada’s federal capital and the seat of its national government. The embassy serves as the Netherlands‘ principal diplomatic representation in Canada.

Planning your visit

Use the complete visiting address, including the suite number, when arranging your journey.

Allow time for building access procedures and bring your appointment confirmation and supporting documents.

Embassy or VFS Global?

The embassy accepts applications for Dutch passports and identity cards, certain legalisations, nationality matters and MVV visa stickers.

Regular short-stay Schengen visa applications are submitted through VFS Global in Canada, which operates separately from the embassy.

Other Dutch offices in Canada

The Netherlands also has consulates-general in Toronto and Vancouver. Depending on your application, these locations or authorised VFS Global centres may be more convenient.

About the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa

The Dutch Embassy in Ottawa represents the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Canada.

Its diplomatic work includes maintaining relations with the Canadian federal government, representing Dutch interests and supporting cooperation between the two countries.

The embassy is also an important consular location for Dutch nationals who live in Canada or need assistance while visiting.

Services for Dutch nationals

The embassy provides passport and identity card applications, emergency travel assistance, nationality procedures, selected consular certificates and document legalisations.

A nationwide consular network

Canada’s size makes the availability of multiple application locations particularly important.

In addition to Ottawa, certain applications can be submitted at the Dutch consulates-general in Toronto or Vancouver, and at selected VFS Global centres.

Applicants should choose a location based on the specific service required, rather than assuming that every office offers identical procedures.

1. Prepare Your Checklist

Create a personal document checklist for each applicant and gather all required supporting evidence.

2. Book Online

Make an online appointment at the embassy in Ottawa or choose another authorised application location in Canada.

3. Attend in Person

Bring your printed checklist, completed and signed application form, and all original documents.

Proof of legal residence in Canada

Applicants must demonstrate that they legally reside in Canada.

Depending on their circumstances, the official guidance accepts:

  • A valid Canadian work or study permit.
  • A valid residence permit.
  • A Canadian naturalisation certificate showing the date of naturalisation.
  • A Canadian citizenship certificate or card.
  • A valid Canadian passport.

For a child’s first Dutch passport or identity card, a birth certificate can be used as proof of legal residence.

When proof of residence is unavailable

If you cannot provide ordinary proof of legal residence, you may need confirmation from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

The official guidance describes options involving a search of citizenship records or documentation showing that a residence application is being processed.

Canadian birth and marriage certificates

Canadian birth, marriage and naturalisation certificates must be legalised when required for the application.

The legalisation process can take several months, so check the requirements well before your appointment.

Translations

Documents in Dutch, English, German or French can be submitted without translation.

Documents written in other languages may require a translation by a sworn translator.

Applications for children

Children must attend passport and identity card appointments in person.

In that situation, do not submit the application through VFS Global.
