- A valid Chilean passport or identity card if you also have Chilean nationality.
For a child’s first Dutch passport or identity card, a birth certificate may be used as proof of legal residence.

Documents written in Dutch, English, German or French can be submitted.
Documents in Spanish or another language should be translated by a sworn translator when required.

Children must attend the passport or identity card application in person.

Tell the embassy during your application appointment if you want this option.

Important: passport collection through an honorary consulate must be arranged when applying. This option can reduce the need to return to Santiago, but it does not mean that passport applications themselves can be submitted at every honorary consulate.
Visas and residence
Applying for a Visa for the Netherlands in Chile

Do Chilean citizens need a Schengen visa?
Chilean passport holders are generally exempt from a Schengen visa for ordinary short visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Different immigration rules may apply to employment, long-term residence or other purposes.
Schengen visa application timing
Eligible applicants can generally submit a Schengen visa application up to six months before travelling, or nine months for qualifying seafarers.
Apply at least 15 calendar days before the planned journey and allow additional time for appointment availability.
MVV visa stickers
If the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has approved your residence application, you may need an MVV visa sticker.
The embassy in Santiago can accept your application if your IND approval letter authorises collection in Chile.
Make an online appointment and follow the instructions in your IND letter.
Caribbean visas
Online appointments are available for eligible short-stay and long-stay Caribbean visa applications at the embassy.
Airport transit visas
If your nationality and travel itinerary require an airport transit visa for the Netherlands, book an online appointment at the embassy.

If your Dutch residence permit has expired or has been lost or stolen while you are in Chile, you may require an entry visa to return to the Netherlands.
Request an appointment by emailing stg-ca@minbuza.nl.
Important: the embassy handles eligible Schengen visa applications directly. A short-stay visa exemption does not automatically authorise long-term residence or employment in the Netherlands.

The official passport guidance lists these locations:
- Iquique.
- Puerto Montt.
- Punta Arenas.
- Valdivia.
- Valparaíso.
The transfer to one of these honorary consulates is offered without additional postage charges.
You must request this arrangement when applying for your passport.
Returning your previous passport
If you kept your previous passport during processing, you must surrender it before the new one can be handed over or sent.
If your previous passport contains a valid visa or residence permit, inform the embassy before invalidation.
Identity cards
New Dutch identity cards normally cannot be sent to another location.

You must collect or arrange delivery of your new passport or identity card within three months after it becomes available.
