2. Book Online

Make an online appointment at the embassy once the documents on your checklist are complete.

3. Attend in Person

Bring the printed checklist, completed and signed application form, and all required original documents.

Proof of legal residence

Applicants must demonstrate that they legally reside in the Dominican Republic.

Depending on their circumstances, acceptable evidence includes:

  • A valid visa and supporting documentation.
  • A valid residence permit.
  • A valid Dominican passport or identity card if the applicant also holds Dominican nationality.

For a child’s first Dutch passport or identity card, a birth certificate may serve as evidence of legal residence.

Dominican birth certificates

If a birth certificate is required, bring an original complete copy containing the place of birth and the full names of both parents.

If the birth was registered late, an additional ratification judgment from a Dominican family court may be required.

The official requirements distinguish between late registration after 60 days in cities and after 90 days in rural areas.

Legalisation of birth and marriage certificates

Birth and marriage certificates issued in the Dominican Republic must be legalised when required for the application.

Documents issued elsewhere may follow different legalisation rules.

Translation requirements

Documents in Dutch, English, German or French can be submitted.

Documents in Spanish or another language must be translated by a sworn translator when required.

Where an apostille is required for a Dominican document, the translation generally also requires an apostille unless it was prepared in the Netherlands by a sworn translator.

Applications for children

Children must attend their passport and identity card appointments in person.

Consent from parents or legal guardians may be required for passport applicants under 18 and identity card applicants under 12.

If a parent or guardian cannot attend, a signed consent declaration and a dated, signed copy of that person’s passport or ID card may be required.
