About

About the Dutch Honorary Consulate in Izmir

The Netherlands maintains official honorary consular representation in Izmir, Türkiye.

Honorary consuls help strengthen connections with local authorities, businesses, organisations and communities. Their work may include supporting Dutch commercial interests, facilitating professional contacts and directing Dutch nationals to the appropriate government services.

Netherlands–Türkiye Relations

The Netherlands and Türkiye have maintained diplomatic relations for more than four centuries. Their modern cooperation covers trade, investment, logistics, agriculture, tourism and cultural exchange.

Izmir’s port facilities, industrial activity and international transport connections make it an important region for Dutch–Turkish business relationships.

The honorary consulate provides local representation. The Embassy of the Netherlands in Ankara and the Consulate-General in Istanbul remain responsible for formal consular procedures.

What Does an Honorary Consul Do?

An honorary consul differs from a full embassy or consulate-general. The office supports appropriate representative activities but is not automatically authorised to issue travel documents, visas or government certificates.

For these services, the Dutch government directs applicants to NetherlandsWorldwide and the relevant authorised application locations.

For these products, the current country instructions allow applicants to begin the process by email without an initial in-person appointment.

Contact ank-ca@minbuza.nl for Ankara or ist-ca@minbuza.nl for Istanbul.
